No One is Rich with Time

Published May 7, 2015 • Written by Cristóbal Almanza Herrera Filed Under: Faith

No One Is Rich With Time

There are some mornings that I find it incredibly difficult to get out a bed.  In the fogginess of one early morning, lyrics from Bono singing Beautiful Day on the alarm clock unexpectedly struck my heart.

“It’s a beautiful day, don’t let it get away.” – U2

I instantly thought of the countless moments I had wasted in my mornings because I felt too comfortable to get out of bed. Sleep is important, but I have often misused my time when it’s so easy to hit the snooze button.

Attending the recent funeral of a young person made me realize how much I take my own life for granted. It’s sad that it often takes such dramatic events to wake me up from the rhythms of life, but I am also grateful for God’s generosity with new opportunities.

No matter how much difference there is in the material world, we all have the same time. No one is rich with time because we are only guaranteed the moment we have right now.

Trusting in the goodness of the Lord, we can see that as a blessing, and one we shouldn’t waste.

“I pray God may open your eyes and let you see what hidden treasures He bestows on us in the trials from which the world thinks only to flee.”
– St. John of Avila

“Jesus, help me to simplify my life by learning what you want me to be – and becoming that person.”
-St. Thérèse of Lisieux

“He who possesses God lacks nothing: God alone suffices.”
– St. Teresa of Avila

Truly, matters in the world are in a bad state; but if you and I begin in earnest to reform ourselves, a really good beginning will have been made.
-St. Peter of Alcantara

“Life with Christ is a wonderful adventure.”
– Saint John Paul II
