They’re Only the Coolest Boys Camps Around!

Published June 15, 2012 • Written by Martina Filed Under: Blog

A few years ago, we introduced our eldest son to Conquest, an apostolate aimed at increasing the faith of our young boys. Though we were new to Conquest, we weren’t new to the programs through Regnum Christi. Our eldest daughter had been fortunate enough to be introduced to the girls’ program called Challenge. For her, it started in fourth grade and though we transitioned from public school to homeschooling, Challenge provided the bridge of friendships that made it easy to homeschool. The friendships formed in fourth grade were still there five years later.

We hoped and expected Conquest to provide those same experiences for our eldest son when he started Conquest. Each Saturday he would meet up with other boys {and their dads} at our parish, St. William which hosts almost all of the Conquest events. He learns quite a bit about the faith and it is taught by Father Michael and Father Gregory. The older boys also help teach and share, which I actually love. I feel peer leadership and instruction is not only key in keeping our kiddos close to the Faith, it helps them share it in a nurturing environment – it gives them the skills and practice to take the Faith outside of their comfort zone as they get older. Skills they will no doubt need once they enter the world at an older age.

Conquest in the past few years has expanded their yearly program to now include two kinds of AWESOME summer programs. The first is Day Camp TX and the other is Camp TX. Our son will be participating in Day Camp TX for the third year and based on age, was finally able to participate in Camp TX. It is like nothing I’ve ever seen. The boys love these camps. The proof is in the numbers. This year they have opened up Day Camp TX for TWO sessions instead of one. Camp TX was a great experience for both my son and husband, who attended as a chaperone last year. So, rather than bore you with all the details from my end, I’m going to link you up to their website so you can get registered IMMEDIATELY. Your boys will have a blast {dads too!} and it will make you think about the ripple effect programs like this can have on your sons for vocations. If your son attends Day Camp TX, make sure you attend daily Mass at St. William and you will see exactly the impact these programs have on our boys.

My name is Jonathan Nguyen and I am heading up Camp TX with an amazing team and two awesome LC priests (Fr Michael Sullivan and Fr Gregory Usselmann). I can promise you that your son will have a fun time growing in Faith through Christ with the activities, talk, sacraments, and pure fun we have in store. God Bless!

I am a 30-something stay-at-home mom to six kiddos, 4/96 through 6/12. We recently decided to homeschool after many years in the public schools. In my "spare time," I serve as the chair for the Pastoral Council at my home parish of St. William in Round Rock and I help with our Adult Faith Formation program, from the planning committee to facilitating and mentoring incoming facilitators. I also enjoy photography as a hobby and once photographed with Ron Parks back in the day. I enjoy talking about all things Catholic and always look to infuse a little bit of humor whenever possible.
