About Ablaze Ministries

We are missionaries, working together to carry out our dual mission of forming outstanding youth ministers for the Catholic Church and providing quality youth ministry to parishes of all sizes. As a team, we collaborate and share our gifts in ministry with one another. We provide knowledge to help youth grow in understanding of their faith, but more importantly, we bring them to an encounter with the living God.

The Mountain vs. The World

Published March 3, 2016 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

As Christians striving for holiness, we can say we have encountered the Lord in some way, whether it was at mass or in prayer, or in another person. And in one of my encounters, though it was very brief, Jesus revealed a little bit of His glory to me. Just a glimpse – and my… [Read More]

The Greatest Adventure

Published February 4, 2016 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

We are humans. We are people of adventure. Just about all of us can look back to our childhood, when our imagination was endless. We were able to turn monkey bars into vine ropes that swing over lava. The pit of colorful balls we had to swim through became a pool of piranhas, just a… [Read More]

The Fine Line Between Sin and Virtue

Published January 7, 2016 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

40 miles per hour is the speed limit on University Drive going towards Highway 6.  When I drive through that zone, I try to go exactly 45 miles per hour.  Why? Because I can get where I’m going faster than if I drive 40, and few police officers aren’t going to pull someone over for only going 5… [Read More]

In the Spirit of Advent

Published December 2, 2015 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

Every year during Advent, the Johnson clan leads a church-wide food drive.  We ask our church community to draw a family from our sister parish in downtown Houston and pray for them, give them boxes of food, and maybe get them a present or two.  Then two Uhauls get filled up with boxes and we… [Read More]

Making a Man Out of You

Published November 5, 2015 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Marriage and Love, Young Adult

You know, I really wish I could just go troll Instagram or Facebook without the lustful temptations that seem to be hiding around every other click. In the overly sexualized world that we live in, the idea of our sexuality is being seen less as a gift and more as a right. Unfortunately all this… [Read More]

Taking a Lesson from C.S. Lewis

Published October 7, 2015 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Blog

“I have no intention of explaining how the correspondence which I now offer to the public fell into my hands. There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy… [Read More]

Walk It Out (God’s Will)

Published September 3, 2015 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

I used to spend too much of my time stressing about my future and what I was supposed to do with it.  What brought me peace in that anxiety was the book of Deuteronomy.  I love that book.  Through it the Holy Spirit revealed so much to me about following God’s will.  A few months after learning from it… [Read More]

Fearless

Published August 5, 2015 • Written by Ablaze Ministries Filed Under: Faith

“You will only go where your fear allows you to go.” Well, isn’t that just a crippling statement? We like to think of ourselves as limitless. In our day to day lives we think, “I will say that hard truth that needs to be said. This time, I know I’m going to do it.” Or… [Read More]
