Is Robert Griffin III Catholic? Why This Question Matters.

Everytime the Washington Redskins play a nationally televised game our organic search results go through the roof because of this very question. Are all the people who are searching for “Is RGIII Catholic”, necessarly all that interested in his faith life? Probably not, but seeing someone cross themselves(as RGIII is known to do) is a very Catholic thing and people recognize that. So why would anyone care enough to go to the effort to search for such a thing?  The world tells us that our faith is old fashion and irrelevant, so who cares if a football player is Catholic or not?  I firmly believe this is the work of the Holy Spirit working in people lives and in their hearts. He is going to reach out to us and call to us in any way possible. If that means we get inspired while sitting in front of the TV Sunday afternoon watching the game then so be it.  If God can work through a whale, he can work through a Samsung.

What are some other examples of the Holy Spirit working in unexpected ways? Well as you may know the Holy Father just recently joined Twitter and he’s already up to 1.27 million followers. Are all of these people well wishers wanting to hear the Pope’s 140 character wisdom? People such as @ifollowhate would say “no”.  But does that mean that they are to far gone to be touched by his message? Someone like St. Paul who was one of the biggest persecutors of Christians would say “not a chance”. These small examples speak volumes for the influence God has in our lives when we least expect it.
Advent-2

This brings me to my Advent Challenge for the day.  During this season of Advent be on the look out for  ways The Lord has spoken to you or influenced you in unconventional ways?

By the way my sources tell me that RG III is not Catholic, but he is a very devout Christian who loves The Lord.

We may never know! Haha, whatever it is, it’s still bringing a glimpse of Christ to the world through sports, the television and by his witness to the Lord. Plus, being a fellow Baylor grad – I have to say RGIII’s a pretty cool dude!
