When Being Perfect Isn’t In the Game Plan

Published July 13, 2012 • Written by Jason Elizondo Filed Under: Blog

Ps 145: 8-9

The LORD is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and of great kindness.
The LORD is good to all
and compassionate toward all his works.

I was reading this Monday morning while sitting with my daughter and I thought about how perfect God’s love is.  Not only that but I also realized how often I fall short of that kind of love in my own life.  As a father I know I’m supposed to be the example, the spiritual head of the family.  Unfortunately, a lot of times I feel I fall way short of this in this job description.  There are time when I’m tired from staying up too late or getting up too early. Times when I don’t really feel like dealing with anyone.  Could you image if God was like this?

“Eh ya’ll are on your own today, I’m taking the Day off…”

We’d be in pretty bad spot. Luckily like the Psalm reads “The LORD is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and of great kindness”.  As Jesus tells us we should strive to be perfect like our heavenly Father is perfect.  We should strive to be perfect so that when we fail as we often do at least we’ll have a better chance of hitting the good mark instead of the perfect mark.
