MOM! DAD! All the cool kids are doing it!

Published September 1, 2011 • Written by Martina Filed Under: Blog

Isn’t this the phrase that most parents tend to tune out the parent frequency? I know I do to escape the pressure of what other parents are doing – obviously, they are way more cool than I am. Or hope to be, for that matter.

I am actually writing about something that is coming to Texas sometime in the near future and I am dialing up the pressure on all Catholics to buy.

But, first these words from our sponsor – our trip to Virginia came with a surprise. When we pulled up, I noticed a BRIGHT yellow license plate on my mother-in-law and father-in-law’s cars. Then I looked at everyone else’s cars {read: my husband’s siblings} and their cars had those same bright yellow license plates. For years, I had noticed the “choose life” license plate model that sat in my MIL’s {shorthand for mother-in-law} kitchen window. She is known in her diocese for her tireless work in the pro-life movement for nearly four decades, so it was no surprise that she had her hand in helping get the license availability for her state. As we were driving home, it occurred to me that, dagnabbit, Texas should be doing the same thing! Imagine my surprise when I did some quick googling on our iPad {saver of lifesavers on a brutal 24+ hour drive!} and discovered that the Texas Choose Life license plates were slated to sell starting sometime in the near future…as in, we are weeks out from its sale!

The details of this new license plate include a modest $30 and, according to their website, $22 will go to eligible nonprofit organizations to promote infant adoption as a compassionate alternative to abortion. The remaining $8 will go to the state and county for administrative costs.

Be sure to visit the Texas Choose Life website for all the details of this great cause as well as the original site, Choose Life, and their Facebook fan page. As I was talking about this excitement of the new plates in my Catholic women’s online community, it was discovered that the web administrator for the Choose Life, Inc. based in Florida as well as the Choose Life America was in my group. She wanted me to relay the following information:

Pray for the ministry of Choose Life America, Inc. Pray for the abortion-minded hearts to turn, the post-abortive families to heal from their past sin, pregnancy centers that share information about the choice of adoption, the increased availability of the tag through the United States, the state governments reviewing these bills, and the growing families that are being blessed by adoption.

One last request – be sure to spread the word among friends. Are you planning to buy the license plates? Join me in a combox shout out below if you are.
