Catholic New Media Awards – Special Update

Published August 29, 2011 • Written by Cristóbal Almanza Herrera Filed Under: Blog, World and News

This past weekend, some of the ACNM crew hit the road and went to visit our friends in Houston hosting CatholiCon 2011. It was a truly fruitful and blessed weekend getting to meet so many great people working with us in the part of the vineyard. The Catholic New Media Awards were announced on Saturday night, and there were many worthy winners of the top honors.

Our very own 2 Guys a Girl and Catholic Podcast won Best New Podcast, and Austin Catholic New Media was honored as Best Catholic Social Media Site.

Our friend Jennifer Fulwiler also was honored in many different categories for her Conversion Diary blog.

As honored as we are to received such recognition, we were happy just to be nominated. Unlike many of the other blogs and new media groups around the country, we greatly appreciate national attention, but we don’t count it as much because it is not our goal.

Our mission is to serve the faithful within the area of the Diocese of Austin and to bring Christ to those living in the “digital continent.” It is a very specific mission, but we believe firmly that it is what we are called to do.

With all that said, we want to extend a big “thank you” to everyone that has supported our mission so far. There is still much work to do, and we’re only getting started. It is an exciting time to be a Catholic in Austin.

Last week we launched our new ACNM Foursquare page. This will help facilitate the very techy city of Austin find the nearby parishes and Catholic locations. Geo-location services have grown to be a true force in social media and we are excited at many great possibilities that come with these growing technologies.

Continue to look out for the expansion of our content, including the launch of our new Austin Catholic New Media en Español within the week. Our diocese is filled with many great communities of Spanish speakers, but there is a huge lack of content created for them.

These are only the beginnings of a very important steps in the New Evangelization to the people of Austin and the surrounding diocese. We ask that you continue to keep us in our prayers, and we pray for all our brothers in sisters that work with us in across the country in Catholic new media. May the Lord bless you all.
