Ash Wednesday is a day we should fast, but it is worth remembering that it is not a Holy Day of Obligation and ashes on the forehead are not a sacrament. I am always amazed the number of people who go to church on Ash Wednesday. Last year a deacon at St. Albert’s mentioned that the church was more full on Ash Wednesday than on a typical Sunday! This year St. Theresa’s is holding four (!) masses on Ash Wednesday, while last All Saint’s Day (which is a Holy Day), they had only two. Why so many people want to get ashes is beyond me. There aren’t just Christmas-and-Easter Catholics – I think there are plenty of Christmas-Easter-and-Ash-Wednesday Catholics.
Hey guys, The Borromeo House is named after St. Charles Borromeo, pronounced burrow-mayo.
