Angels & Dragons III: The St. Michael Relic Stone

Published September 2, 2017 • Written by Deacon Guadalupe Rodriguez Filed Under: Faith

St Michael Cave Image

In 490 AD, through a series of miraculous events, St. Michael the Archangel indicated that he had chosen a cave in Gargano, Italy, to be a shrine in his honor.  He appeared to the local bishop, and he explained how unique and special this cave was to him,

“I am the Archangel Michael, and am always in the presence of the Lord.  This cave is sacred to me, I have chosen it; I myself am its watchful custodian…”

While most Catholic churches are consecrated and made holy by the local bishop using sacred chrism oil and blessing prayers, the cave needed no such consecration for as St Michael told the bishop,

“It is not necessary that you dedicate this church that I myself have consecrated with my presence.”

St. Michael the Archangel appeared again on September 25, 1656, during the famous plague, and he said to the bishop,

“I am the Archangel St. Michael. Anyone who uses the stones of this grotto will be liberated…”

Everyone who carried a relic stone from the cave on their person with faith was miraculously delivered from the plague.

However, even before the last apparition, the cave was considered by pilgrims for centuries as one of the four major places of pilgrimage in all of Europe and even seven popes have visited.   St. Francis of Assisi would do a St. Michael’s Lent (40 Days) from Solemnity of the Assumption on August 15th to the Feast of the Archangels on September 29th, and on one occasion during this lent, he came on pilgrimage and prayed for 30 days and nights outside the cave.  In the end, he didn’t feel worthy to enter the cave so he knelt down, kissed a stone outside the cave and carved a T (Tau–Ez. 9:4) upon it.

Over the centuries exorcists have used the St. Michael relic stones from the cave to liberate the demonically possessed and those who need deliverance because they are obsessed (mental) or oppressed (bodily exterior).  St. Padre Pio would often send persons needing deliverance to the cave of St. Michael, and they would be liberated.

Fr. Chad Ripperger, an exorcist, explains in a YouTube video how successfully he has used these St. Michael relic stones in liberating the demonically possessed,

(Audio) “The cave has these little stones…I have had phenomenal success!  One woman was possessed, and it took only took three times to liberate her …Afterwards, she didn’t have any problems and that was the first time I had ever used one.  Since then I have used it (St. Michael relic stone) all the time.”

Catholic author, Michael Brown, witnessed a deliverance of a demonic possession at the cave, “When I visited the cave in 1990, a man sitting before the statue of Michael was going through a spontaneous deliverance as a demon that had obviously inhabited him screeched and yelled as the Holy Spirit sought to cast it out.” http://www.spiritdaily.org/michaelcave.htm

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “From the Paschal Mystery…sacramentals draw their power.” (#1670)  Fr. Chad Ripperger recommends that we carry a St. Michael relic stone on ourselves as a sacramental for the intercession, deliverance, and protection of the mighty archangel.  Fr. Gabriel Amorth, (Vatican’s exorcist) also says, “The relics of saints who are our particular patrons are also efficacious…” (An Exorcist Tells His Story)

St Michael reliquary

I myself, have experienced St. Michael’s great intervention when a friend felt inspired to get me a relic stone this past spring.  Every day I kiss the relic because it is so, so precious to me since St. Michael and I go back long ways to my law enforcement years.

I am now doing the St. Michael’s Lent, and fasting from constantly looking at my cell phone for texts and emails after work.  Needless to say it has been a challenge, but I am confident that by September 29th…I will receive the grace I am asking for through St. Michael’s intercession.

Certificate of Relic Authenticity

To obtain a St. Michael relic stone, Fr. Chad Ripperger, FSSP, recommends we donate $50.00 (about 42 Euros) via paypal, to cover international shipping costs and the expense of the reliquary (metal container holding the St. Michael relic stone, also called a “theca”).

Simply add the number of St. Michael relic stones requested and the shipping address (if different from your paypal shipping address) in the “Add a Note” section: https://www.paypal.me/santuariosanmichel

Wow, I got a theca with a stone for free when I was on pilgrimage there. I have never ever paid $50 for a relic; they are not to be sold for profit and the actual cost, even with shipping, is relatively small. They are to be given for donation.

I agree that a relic should never be paid for – but maybe the cost is in the postage and the cost of the container the relic is in rather than paying for the relic itself. I’m in Australia and am weighing up whether I should order one.

Yes, the $50 is to cover the cost of postage, the relic container and printing of the certificate of authenticity. I have just ordered 1 relic stone.

The relics are at the two religious article stores at the shrine, one on the top or near the top level and another at the ground level.

Hello! Yes, you are right that relics are never to be sold, and that a donation might include a gift to the Basilica and cover the cost of the theca and international shipping. $50 is a ballpark figure, of course you are free to give less, or more! You may also order multiple relics at one time.

I think it must be because the stone is placed in a reliquary – its a blessed object so it should be housed in a container. I’ve emailed the Basilica Santuario Michele about this.

The communion red and blue crystal shaped heart of Mary and Jesus pierced with silver sword with the little silver rose crown of thorns, flame and cross is a very beautiful concept. How would I be able to purchase one? A very glorious meaning behind the bleeding heart of love between mother and son. I would love to have one. Please, let me know if it is available.

Thank you, This crystal heart is a beautiful representation of the communion of hearts.

It’s a symbol of the sacred heart of Mary and Jesus. But it also relates to the human heart.

The love that a mother or father have for their child is so strong that their heart hurts deeply for when their child is harmed or in pain, hurt, teased, mistreated or cries-even silently; even when they are feeling misunderstood or when a child becomes sad and confused or lonely.

A mothers love is so strong because her love steams from her emotions that affect her brain and her body, alike.

It is more intensely overwhelming when a mothers brain evokes empathy. Empathy penatrates directly into her physical heart like a sword.

A mother feels the turmoil in her very soul through empathy that is why she feels her own child’s suffering and shares the burden of the pains and sufferings of her children.

Millions of women and children posses empathy as well as some men therefore their hearts come together as a savings grace of healing.

The pain that is felt can cause death or a slow death such as terminal illness.

As the one that is harmed or injured makes this temporary journey through their hardship, their hardship does indeed becomes much lighter through a mothers or fathers love. It’s a form of healing- an interception, in sharing the child’s pain by carrying some of the load.

This is why a mothers heart is so strong. She feels her child spiritually always and forever. This is a communion of hearts for they become one.

Empaths suffer for all children and have pity on the hardness and lack of empathy from the perpetrators. Empaths also suffer for all man kind.

They not only carry the burden but they are also bullied and exploited themselves; as well as targeted more often than the ill-minded, heartless and controlling individuals that inflick pain and suffering on others. The perpetrators rationalize to feed their own interests.

Experiencing someone else’s pain is bittersweet, a blessing and a curse. It is eternal and internal pain because they also have pity for the ill-minded for whom are selfish, self involved, self centered and lack emotions or empathy or a true feeling of remorse.

This is why they continue to destroy countless life’s and further bring on sorry and pain.

I think I understand what you are saying. It sounds more like a gift and a blessing. The important thing is understanding where God and His angels are leading you, and if you are a “spiritually sensitive soul” that has the gift of feeling, perceiving, or sharing other’s pain. I found this book very helpful in understanding what I was sensing. This is the write-up on Amazon:

“The high sensitivity required to sense and feel what other people experience is what makes life painful it also makes it possible to sense, feel, and hear from God. Christians are not immune to mood swings, emotional upheavals, feeling burned out and burned up. But you are mysteriously and uniquely designed with a high degree of spiritual sensitivity. Because of this, you are one who can join Jesus in the work He began and continues to do in the earth today. Author Carol Brown explains The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity what this sensitivity looks like and what it feels like, how this sensitivity affects you, and the common, human reflex reactions to this sensitivity. You will be excited and relieved to discover that God gave you this spiritual awareness to develop spiritual maturity yours and others. So release yourself to the Spirit of God, and learn how to respond to this most precious gift we have received from our heavenly Father!”

Thank you! I believe that I inherited my grandmother’s DNA segment within its strand that has been scientifically attributed through Epi-genetics to the gene of ferver.

My family’s background is Roman Catholic on both sides. Yet, my grandmother converted from the Protestant faith over to Roman Catholic.

She suffered greatly and as a result passed away too soon, most probably due to not being able to deal with her pain or how to keep her emotions in check, on top of being a mother of six children at the age of 42.

Emotions this sensitive makes for the most beautiful people in the world but they are not understood fully. Empaths are keenly alert aware of and in close proximity to the spiritual world. They function on intuition and on a subconscious level. Their love runs deeper than the Oceans.

Empaths are considered weak but the fact is is that they are equipped with the strongest of minds. Yet, they suffer internally and tend to pass early due to their physical bodies breaking down from their intense love and pleasing spirit.

Mother Theresa visited her on her death bed and told her that her love will be know throughout the world and that she will live for two more years.

She painted Mother Theresa as she saw her that day. My Grandfather actually witnessed Mother Theresa in her hospital room and thought her to be a nun visiting her.

The scent of roses were astonishing to the nurses. And, my grandmother was told that she would be leaving the hospital that night and live for two more years.

She did, and passed two years later in her own home with her family just as she wished and was told; thus granted.

This reminds me of St. Gemma Galgani and her guardian angel encouraging her during great suffering, “Jesus loves thee greatly. Love Him greatly in return….Are you fond of Jesus’ Mother? Salute Her very often, for She values such attention very much, and unfailingly returns the salutations offered to Her; and if you do not sense this, know that She makes a proof of your unfailing trust.”

Studies on empathy show as many men are empathetic as women but are less likely to describe themselves as empathetic. God gives all His gifts to all His children.

I am so glad you are enjoying the relic! I, too, can’t say enough about it! Yes, St. Michael is, also, known for healing throughout the history of the church as healing and deliverance are very closely related. The book “Michael the Archangel and the Life Apparitions to Date” by Fr. Albert J. Herbert, S.M. has plenty of examples where St. Michael intercedes miraculously for healing.

I recently received a blessing with the “rock” from St. Michael’s cave from a priest belonging to the Fathers of Mercy in Kentucky. He was giving a mission at our local parish “St. Michael’s” in NJ. I was raised and educated, and married in St. Michael’s parish in Sunset Park section of Brooklyn. On my first trip to Europe I attended St. Michael’s Church in Munich which had been bombed during WWII and had since been restored. I have a special attachment to St. Michael. So when I received this special blessing I was very pleased.

I learned with joy of the St Michael’s Stone, and its aid in exorcisms. I know and pray for an exorcist I see about every 2 or 3 years, and obtained one to help him in his ministry. I did this as a tribute and thanksgiving to St Michael, who showed extraordinary care and protection of the 97 year old paterfamilias of our family, who was a WW II paratrooper and whose name is Michael. He should have been killed more than once except for miraculous preservation and escapes thanks to his namesake. St Michael is patron of paratroopers and other warriors, including police.

Just a couple days ago, another friend of mine chose St. Michael as his confirmation saint ❤️ and something told me to pass it along to him. I did and immediately felt the need to order a new one for myself. Like an actual panic! Lol. I just placed my order today. For 10! I will have plenty to go around for anyone in need. We used to pray the St. Michael prayer at home with our children each night as part of their prayers before bed, and still invoke his protection often. As soon as I read this article when it was first posted, I ordered a stone and have carried it with me ever since. 35 years ago, after finishing university, I backpacked across Europe and ended up at Mont St. Michel. Looking back, I am inclined to believe God placed St. Michael in my path at that time. The pastor there took me under his wing and gave me supper, took me on a private tour of the cathedral in areas off-limits to tourists, then gave me a place to sleep for the night. He also enrolled me in the confraternity of St. Michael and gave me a chaplet. I found the chaplet long, and perhaps wasn’t spiritually ready for it, and put it away for many years. The last couple of years, praying it daily has been a blessing. Each prayer contains much food for meditation on the role and power of angels in our lives, and the promises associated with it are inspiring. I have enjoyed all your articles in this series. They have encouraged me in my walk of faith, and in invoking the help of St. Michael and heaven’s angels in my life and in that of my family. I believe they are a gift that will benefit many in this time.

Dear St. Raphael, yes, the link is still functional and working. Sometimes it takes up to 90 days or more depending if they are backup due to the high demand of the St. Michael Relic stones. Let me know if you have more questions.

I have been in possession of two relic stones, but have given them to individuals who were in great distress and they found solace, comfort and deepened faith when the stone came to them.

I just ordered my third, I need a stone for myself because it represents faith, love, peace and strength.

      Dear Judy,
These relic stones are very powerful! One person reported to me that they could sense their presence 15 feet away. Here are some miracles from the relic stones. http://atxcatholic.com/index.php/2019/11/angels-dragons-xxvi-the-st-michael-relic-stone-miracles/?fbclid=IwAR3XCeGk5LRli_cW8ItDY-pGtEmyv0-uxvYLxKMtqLVDbGXYmrIyc3nMiMI
