{"id":882373,"date":"2018-05-18T08:00:40","date_gmt":"2018-05-18T13:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/?p=882373"},"modified":"2018-05-28T15:29:36","modified_gmt":"2018-05-28T20:29:36","slug":"the-corpus-christi-procession-and-divine-mercy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2018\/05\/the-corpus-christi-procession-and-divine-mercy\/","title":{"rendered":"The Corpus Christi Procession and Divine Mercy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-882374\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image8-550x385.jpg?resize=550%2C385\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"385\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (the feast of Corpus Christi)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the celebration of Christ&#8217;s Real Presence in the Holy Eucharist. As Our Lord is carried through the streets of cities and villages around the world, the faithful give public witness to their faith and devotion to the Holy Eucharist. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Such processions have been undertaken for eight centuries, and they have brought many to a deeper spirituality. St. Faustina, the Polish saint who brought forth the Divine Mercy devotion, witnessed several profound experiences with Jesus during Corpus Christi processions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In her diary, she wrote, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cOnce, the image was being exhibited over the altar during the Corpus Christi procession [June 20, 1935]. When the priest exposed the Blessed Sacrament, and the choir began to sing, the rays from the image pierced the Sacred Host and spread out all over the world [441].\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-882376\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image3-119x190.jpg?resize=119%2C190\" alt=\"\" width=\"119\" height=\"190\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Faustina also saw the mercy rays piercing the sacred Host in another procession, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI saw the same rays coming forth from the Sacred Host, just as they are painted in the image. My soul was filled with great longing for God [657],\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many ways, Jesus made himself known to the young saint as she took part in various Corpus Christi processions. <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c\u2026 I heard a voice coming from the Host: \u2018<\/span><\/i><b><i>Here is My repose<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u2019 During Benediction, Jesus gave me to know that soon a solemn moment would take place on this very spot [1136],<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d she wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In another Corpus Christi procession, Jesus and St. Faustina would comfort each other as during the way of the cross when He meets Veronica or like a bride and her Groom setting each other\u2019s hearts afire as St. Faustina states, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cJune 1, 1937. Today, the Corpus Christi procession took place. At the first altar, a flame issued from the Host and pierced my heart, and I heard a voice, <\/span><\/i><b><i>Here is My resting place.<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Ardor burst into flame in my heart. I felt that I am transformed completely into Him [1140].\u201d <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Faustina\u2019s health was often frail and on several occasions, she received the anointing of the sick thinking she might die. Often she was weak but during the processions, Jesus made up for what she lacked in health as St. Faustina wrote, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI felt so weak that I lost all hope of participating in the procession \u2026 I said to the Lord, \u2018Jesus, if my prayers are pleasing to You, give me the strength for this moment that I may take part in the procession.\u2019 At that same instant, I felt strong and certain that I could go along with the sisters in the procession [1668].\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are many graces to be found in walking the streets in solemn procession with Jesus. \u00a0All are invited to walk with their eyes fixed on Jesus. People pray, sing, process, as the clergy bless the four corners of the earth* with the Lord at four different altars in order to place the planet under His protection. \u00a0The four Gospels are also proclaimed to cleanse the four winds of the earth** from evil spirits as when Jesus says to St. Faustina during the Corpus Christi procession, \u201c<\/span><b><i>These rays of mercy will pass through you, just as they have passed through this Host, and they will go out through all the world [441].\u201d<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-882375\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/05\/image9-550x413.jpg?resize=550%2C413\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"413\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">*Why do we have four altars? \u00a0\u201cThe number four symbolizes the four corners of the earth that is, the whole universe, the world in which we live. \u00a0The blessing was imparted in four directions with the intention of putting them under the protection of the Eucharistic Lord.\u201d\u00a0 &#8211; Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">**Why do we read the four Gospels?
