{"id":82460,"date":"2015-01-24T14:40:18","date_gmt":"2015-01-24T20:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=82460"},"modified":"2015-01-24T21:16:22","modified_gmt":"2015-01-25T03:16:22","slug":"sunday-says-podcast-january-25-2015-mass-readings-reflections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2015\/01\/sunday-says-podcast-january-25-2015-mass-readings-reflections\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Says Podcast \u2013 January 25, 2015 Mass Readings and Reflections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/SundaySaysPodcast-logo1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-41487\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/SundaySaysPodcast-logo1-300x231.jpg?resize=247%2C190\" alt=\"SundaySaysPodcast-logo\" width=\"247\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>[powerpress]<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.universalis.com\/20150125\/mass.htm\">Sunday January 25, 2015<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lectionary: 68<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Third Sunday of Ordinary Time <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/012515.cfm\"><strong>(NAB Translation)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the Sunday Says podcast for January 25, 2015, the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Sunday of Ordinary Time.\u00a0 We\u2019re glad that you have joined us as we break open the Word of God in preparation for Mass.\u00a0 This week we continue the theme of \u201chearing\u201d what God has to say and acting upon it.\u00a0\u00a0 Our readings, as always, are taken from the Jerusalem translation for copyright purposes.\u00a0\u00a0 Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading 1<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/jonah\/3:1\"><strong>Jonah 3:1-5, 10<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In our first reading we hear a familiar story about Jonah who is given an assignment that doesn\u2019t excite him very much.\u00a0 He is told to go to the pagan city of Nineveh and tell them to repent from their sins so that they might be saved from destruction.\u00a0\u00a0 Surpringly, they listen, and they do repent and are saved.\u00a0 This story speaks to the mercy of God which is extended to all people, that they turn away from sin and toward the Lord. \u00a0It also challenges us to listen closely to God and to have the courage to accept our own duty to help bring salvation to others.\u00a0 We don\u2019t know for sure whether Jonah\u2019s reluctance to follow God\u2019s commandment was because he didn\u2019t <em>want<\/em> to go or because he felt that he <em>couldn\u2019t<\/em> do the job.\u00a0 What this passage shows us is that regardless of our reasons, God will provide what is needed if we will open ourselves up to His power.\u00a0 This story speaks to God\u2019s overwhelming mercy even for the Gentiles and serves to remind us that we must follow God by likewise showing His mercy and sharing the gospel.\u00a0 This is our mission and the mission of the Church.\u00a0 It is also the task of the laity.\u00a0\u00a0 Lives will be changed as a result.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsorial Psalm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/25:4\"><strong>Psalm 25:4-6, 7-9<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The response for the responsorial psalm is,<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Teach me your ways, O Lord.&#8221; \u00a0<\/strong>This should be our constant prayer.\u00a0 Are we teachable?\u00a0 Can we learn to evangelize as Christ and his early Church did?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second reading<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/1corinthians\/7:29\"><strong>1 Corinthians 7:29-31\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The second reading from Paul\u2019s epistle to the Corinthians is a reminder that life is uncertain and that our time to do good is running out.\u00a0\u00a0 Rather than spending so much time concerning ourselves with things that will only pass away, we rather should realize that we may have just a blink of time to do good.\u00a0\u00a0 It speaks to the value of good time management and how we must manage our time in a way that gives glory to God\u00a0\u00a0 There\u2019s no time to look back and no time to waste.\u00a0 The time is now to give everything to God.
