{"id":43828,"date":"2014-02-15T16:20:54","date_gmt":"2014-02-15T22:20:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=43828"},"modified":"2014-02-17T17:44:10","modified_gmt":"2014-02-17T23:44:10","slug":"sunday-says-podcast-february-16-2014-mass-readings-reflections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2014\/02\/sunday-says-podcast-february-16-2014-mass-readings-reflections\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday Says Podcast \u2013 February 16, 2014 Mass Readings and Reflections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/SundaySaysPodcast-logo1.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"SundaySaysPodcast-logo\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/SundaySaysPodcast-logo1-300x231.jpg?resize=300%2C231\" width=\"300\" height=\"231\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>[powerpress]<\/p>\n<p><b>Sunday Says Podcast \u2013 February 16, 2014 Mass Readings and Reflections<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/universalis.com\/20140216\/mass.htm\">Sunday February 16, 2014<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Lectionary: 76<\/p>\n<p><b>Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/021614.cfm\"><b>(NAB Translation)<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Welcome to the Sunday Says podcast for the Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, February 16, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>This Sunday\u2019s readings focus on the <i>Law <\/i>as defined in the Old Testament and<i> fulfillment<\/i> of that Law in Christ in the New Testament.<\/p>\n<p>Our readings this week, as always, are from the New Jerusalem translation for copyright purposes.\u00a0 The readings this week are longer than usual so let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n<p><b>Reading 1<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/sirach\/15:15\"><b>Sirach 15:15-20<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the First Reading, from the book of Sirach we are reminded that because we have free will, we always have a choice whether to obey or not obey God.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 God\u2019s rules are not forced on us but failure to obey always has natural negative consequences\u00a0\u00a0 We <b>abuse<\/b> our freedom when we disobey God.\u00a0 However, we <b>use<\/b> our freedom appropriately when seek to follow God\u2019s law not only in our actions but also in our hearts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Responsorial Psalm<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/psalms\/119:1\">Psalm 119:1-2, 4-5, 17-18, 33-34<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>In the <b>Responsorial Psalm,<\/b> the response of \u201cBlessed are they who follow the law of the Lord\u201d continues the theme of obedience to God\u2019s word.\u00a0 Love for God should translate into a staunch desire to know God\u2019s will and to do His will to the best of our ability as our top priority and burning desire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Reading 2<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/1corinthians\/2:6\"><b>1 Corinthians 2:6-10<\/b><\/a><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The Second Reading is from St. Paul&#8217;s first Letter to the <b>Corinthians(2:6-10)<\/b>. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Paul contrasts worldly wisdom with the unique wisdom that comes from God only through the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 This wisdom is a wisdom that <b>revealed<\/b> wisdom.\u00a0\u00a0 It is something that people would never figure out on their own.\u00a0 \u00a0It makes no sense, and is even scandalous to the rulers and trend-setters of the world. \u00a0But this wisdom is rooted in the mystery of God and contains a promise so wonderful that it surpasses anything we can imagine in this life.\u00a0 \u00a0A glimpse of this mystery has been revealed in Christ and becomes more accessible as we mature in faith and submit ourselves to the cross of Christ.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Gospel<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/usccb.org\/bible\/matthew\/5:17\"><b>Matthew 5:17-37<\/b><\/a><b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Our Gospel reading taken from St. Matthew\u2019s Gospel and covers a lot of territory. \u00a0\u00a0Here we see Jesus confirm the continuing value of the Old Testament and the moral law given in the Old Testament.
