The scene that sticks out mostly to me is where Zod, the film’s antagonist, asks for mankind to give up Clark or have their whole world be destroyed. Confused as to why he should do, Clark goes to visit a priest, (or evangelical minister or Anglican but I’m jut gonna say he’s a priest (he’s wearing a roman collar)). Clark asks him gor advice on dealing with Zod. The priest tells him, “Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith first. I love it. I love it.

I think of all of the people that I hold the most dear in my life and I realize that I don’t understand them. I don’t know all of their sufferings, I don’t know triggers that make them joyfull or reflective or sad. I don’t know everything about any one person and will not ever know everything and understand any one person completley. This is what makes marriage hard sometimes: two people who do not totally understand each other but value each other infinitely despite their own faults. It is difficult to love another person when we don’t understand their motives or suffering, but this is where the most unconditional love is fostered and grown.

In my own life and in my own relationship with Jesus I do not understand why he pulls at my heart in the ways that he does. I do not understand why He loves me the way that He does to the point of not trusting Him completley (despite now irrational this is. Jesus isn’t’ known for messing with people). But this is where the leap of faith takes root: I don’t feel like I trust Jesus and my mind doesn’t understand but my faith tells me that Jesus is everything that He says He is. As I walk with Him in faith the trust part will come later.

This Christmas Eve I invite you to let go of everything keeping you from the Infant Jesus and to take faith and to love Him even though you do not understand Him.
