{"id":372024,"date":"2017-03-09T07:57:05","date_gmt":"2017-03-09T13:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/?p=372024"},"modified":"2017-04-25T23:12:13","modified_gmt":"2017-04-26T04:12:13","slug":"sign-times-temptation-survivial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2017\/03\/sign-times-temptation-survivial\/","title":{"rendered":"A Sign of Our Times: The Temptation of Survivial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temptation of survival begins with fear in our hearts deceiving us that there are not enough jobs, resources, and food even though statistically <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/08\/21\/food-waste-americans-throw-away-food-study_n_1819340.html\" target=\"_blank\">we throw away half of our food every year<\/a>. \u00a0The spirits of fear and greed trick us into believing we are no longer safe, and we must protect and preserve all our goods against the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<em>the strangers<\/em>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Lev. 25:45) who appear different or as Fr. Gabriel Amorth (Vatican&#8217;s exorcist) explains, <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The demon\u2019s ability to trick and introduce errors of the worst kind into entire groups is incredible. There are those who insist that it is easier to trick a crowd than a single individual. It is certain that the devil can strike very large groups; however, almost always it is clear that human assent is involved, the human sin of free acceptance of satanic actions. The motives of this acceptance are many: wealth, power, vice, and more.&#8221; <\/span><strong>(An Exorcist Tells His Story)<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temptation of survival withers the hearts and dreams of an entire nation, and it paralyzes with terror, panic, and anger leading us to build storage barns (Lk. 12:19) instead of sharing. \u00a0The devil tricks us into thinking the end of our resources is inevitable, and it is either us, or <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;the stranger in a strange land&#8221;<\/span><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Exodus 2:22) or as Pope Francis explains on Feb 2, 2017,<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;The temptation of survival is an evil that can gradually take root within us and within our communities.\u00a0 The mentality of survival makes us reactionaries, fearful, slowly and silently shutting ourselves up in our houses and in our own preconceived notions.\u00a0 It makes us look back, to the glory days \u2013 days that are past&#8230; A survival mentality makes us want to protect spaces, buildings and structures, rather than to encourage new initiatives.\u00a0 The temptation of survival makes us forget grace. \u00a0In a word, the temptation of survival turns what the Lord presents as an opportunity for mission into something dangerous, threatening, and potentially disastrous.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the temptation of survival reaches its pinnacle, distrust and hate collects in our hearts like a virus towards the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<em>strangers<\/em>&#8220;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Eph. 2:19) who are taking our provisions and jobs even though <a href=\"https:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/2015\/11\/09\/watch-an-economist-go-on-fox-and-debunk-myth-th\/206736\" target=\"_blank\">the latest research says otherwise<\/a>. It now becomes a survival of the fittest mentality, and a blind frenzy ensues toward a road of isolation, banishment, and concentration camps. \u00a0The evil spirits of fear, violence, and death grip the land and its people because this is not a normal wave of evil, but a great tsunami wave of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<em>intrinsic evil<\/em><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [which are]<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em> violations of human dignity, such as acts of racism, and treating the poor as disposable,<\/em>\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Forming Conscience for Faithful Citizenship paragraph #23) or as when God commands Moses, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;There shall be one law for the native and for the stranger who sojourns among you.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Exodus 12:49)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Historically, these spirits take over when we don&#8217;t pray and listen to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/news\/2017\/17-043.cfm\">the voice of the Church and our bishops<\/a>\u00a0(<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/news\/2017\/17-041.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Bishops Along Northern Mexico And Texas Border Issue Statement On Immigration<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/news\/2017\/17-023.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">Committee On Migration Chair Strongly Opposes Administration\u2019s Announcement To Build A Wall At U.S.-Mexico Border, Increase Detention And Deportation Forces<\/a>).\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This domino effect of evil occurs when we cooperate with fear, indifference, and most especially silence. \u00a0Fr. Gabriel Amorth explains how listening to the wrong voice during grave times can have disastrous effects, <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It is possible for the demon to use one person to strike even a very large group\u2014these groups can even take over or influence one or more nations. In our own times, I believe that this was the case of men such as Karl Marx, Hitler, and Stalin. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out \u2014 \u00a0Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me\u2014and there was no one left to speak for me.&#8221; <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Are we there yet? \u00a0Will <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;<em>the practice of separating families through deportation<\/em>,&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(FC paragraph #52) unleash evil as happened in Germany? Will we create millions of orphans? \u00a0Incidentally, immigrants have a much, much lower crime rate than the native born <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanimmigrationcouncil.org\/research\/criminalization-immigration-united-states\" target=\"_blank\">according to the latest research<\/a>. Who will be next? \u00a0Most probably the 3.3 million Muslims living in the U.S. since they too affect our survival as when Pharaoh felt threatened by the Hebrews and ordered the death of innocent children (Exodus 1:15-16).<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_372695\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-372695\" class=\"size-large wp-image-372695\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/IntornmentCamp-550x399.jpg?resize=550%2C399\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"399\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-372695\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo of 120,000 Japanese Americans in an internment (concentration camp) in California in 1942<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make no mistake Christians are next after these two groups! \u00a0Throughout history, the devil\u2019s most prized targets are the Christians beginning with Jesus, Mary, and Joseph fleeing as immigrants to Egypt since Herod was killing children sensing his survival in jeopardy. (Mt 2:13-15) \u00a0The devil also hates Christians because we always speak out in defense of the weak and vulnerable, for Jesus will remind us when He returns, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<em>I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me\u2026<\/em>\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Mt 25:35-36)<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_372696\" style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-372696\" class=\"size-large wp-image-372696\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/FlightintoEgypt-550x405.jpg?resize=550%2C405\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"405\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-372696\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Flight Into Egypt &#8211; Artist Undetermined<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We still have time as the great tsunami wave of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<em>intrinsic evil<\/em>,&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has not fully hit since we are still divided as when Jesus says a father against son, mother-in-law against daughter in-law,&#8230;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lk. 12:53). \u00a0But, time is running out, so earnestly pray for the spiritual protection of our leaders, since they too, as any of us, can become victims, as, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<em>The devil loves to take over business leaders and those who hold political office<\/em>,&#8221; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">says Fr.
