{"id":36865,"date":"2013-02-18T05:00:41","date_gmt":"2013-02-18T11:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=36865"},"modified":"2013-02-16T14:36:50","modified_gmt":"2013-02-16T20:36:50","slug":"catholic-homeschoolers-building-bridges-with-upcoming-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2013\/02\/catholic-homeschoolers-building-bridges-with-upcoming-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Catholic Homeschoolers Building Bridges with Upcoming Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>They are not hard to pick out at daily Mass.\u00a0 They are the parents with the procession of children following them down the communion line.\u00a0 The number of families choosing to homeschool has been steadily growing over the last 10 years.\u00a0 The most <a href=\"http:\/\/nces.ed.gov\/fastfacts\/display.asp?id=91\" target=\"_blank\">common reason given<\/a> for choosing to homeschool is the desire to provide religious or moral instruction, hence, the increase of children attending daily Mass.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With parents wanting to give their kids the best religious and moral education, you might expect Catholic homeschoolers to have plenty of support from their parishes, but unfortunately this is not always the case.\u00a0 One of the challenges homeschoolers have is finding a location that will allow them to gather for their different activities.\u00a0 With the parish facilities closed to them, oftentimes homeschoolers end up feeling disconnected and opt for online support groups where they can connect with other families.\u00a0 Some might even seek secular or non-denominational Christian support groups; but for most Catholic homeschoolers the need to connect with other Catholic families is a priority that they may have trouble meeting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>This is the reason Families in Support of Catholic Home Education (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fischegroups.org\" target=\"_blank\">FISCHE<\/a>) was founded.\u00a0 For the last 10 years, FISCHE has been working to bring Catholic homeschooling families together as well as helping to build relationships at the parish and Diocesan level. \u00a0Through this collaboration, it has become increasingly clear that the homeschoolers who receive support from their parish have the largest homeschooling community.\u00a0 However, because these parishes are few and far between and Catholic homeschoolers are scattered throughout the Diocese, new or prospective Catholic homeschoolers may not know where to go for support\u2014until now.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_36866\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/2012-Blessing-Mass.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-36866\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-36866\" alt=\"2012 Blessing Mass\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/2012-Blessing-Mass-300x225.jpg?resize=300%2C225\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-36866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">2012 Blessing Mass<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On March 9, 2013, FISCHE is hosting Inspiration Catholic Homeschool Conference.
