{"id":288290,"date":"2016-08-27T10:25:33","date_gmt":"2016-08-27T15:25:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/?p=288290"},"modified":"2016-08-27T10:25:33","modified_gmt":"2016-08-27T15:25:33","slug":"seek-face-psalm1054","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2016\/08\/seek-face-psalm1054\/","title":{"rendered":"Seek His Face (Psalm105:4)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-288291 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/SeekHisFace-550x288.jpg?resize=550%2C288\" alt=\"Seek His Face\" width=\"550\" height=\"288\" \/><\/p>\n<p><b><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis states, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Introduce everyone to the great mystery of God\u2019s mercy by contemplating the face of Christ,&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (25) and similarly on June 29, 2016, he states in the newly released apostolic constitution, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cSeeking the face of God has always been a part of human history.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vultum Dei quaerere &#8220;Seeking the Face of God&#8221; no. 1) From the beginning Adam and Eve experienced their greatest joy by gazing at the face of God in the garden; however, after the fall, they could no longer gaze upon the face of God. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Since then man unknowingly searches for the face of God in fame, pleasure, power, money, drugs, sex, and rock &amp; roll, but each time he comes up empty, unfulfilled, and disillusioned. \u00a0Yet, Pope Francis reminds us that from the beginning, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cmen and women called by God and in love with Him have devoted their lives exclusively to seeking His face.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vultum Dei quaerere no. 2)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gazing at the face of God is our greatest desire, and if we could see His face, we would die of love and ecstasy, or as God explains to Moses, <\/span><b><i>&#8220;You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.&#8221;<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ex. 33:20) \u00a0St. Paul explains this too, but he gives us the hope of one day gazing at His face fully, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;At present we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then, we will see face to face.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (1Cor.13:12)<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_288292\" style=\"width: 386px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-288292\" class=\"size-full wp-image-288292\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shroudandDivinemercyFaceofJesus.jpg?resize=376%2C266\" alt=\"Face of Jesus\" width=\"376\" height=\"266\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-288292\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Face from the Shroud of Turin<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">St. Faustina expresses something similar, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;God&#8217;s presence continued to pervade my soul. Oh, what happens to a soul that meets the Lord face to face, no pen has ever expressed or ever will express!&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Diary 691) and she further explains, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;However, the soul receiving this unprecedented grace of union with God cannot say that it sees God face to face, because even here there is a very thin veil of faith, but so very thin that the soul can say that it sees God and talks with Him.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Diary 771)<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_183571\" style=\"width: 251px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-183571\" class=\"size-full wp-image-183571\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/atxcatholic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Buchanan_St-Faustina-and-Divine-Mercy.jpg?resize=241%2C595\" alt=\"St Faustina and Divine Mercy - Buchanan\" width=\"241\" height=\"595\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-183571\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Faustina and Divine Mercy &#8211; Buchanan<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is difficult to understand since we usually stop at the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;&#8216;Eucharistic Face&#8217; of Christ, the new force from whom the Church draws her life.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ecclesia De Eucharistia <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no. 7) St. Gaetano Catanoso similarly says, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;If we wish to adore the real Face of Jesus, we can find it in the divine Eucharist, where with the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, the Face of Our Lord is hidden under the white veil of the Host.&#8221; \u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miraculously, St. Faustina actually sees the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Eucharistic Face&#8221;,<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I saw the face of the Lord Jesus in the Sacred Host which was exposed in the monstrance. Jesus was looking with kindness at everyone.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(433) <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The reality is that the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Eucharistic Face&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> helps us to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;constantly seek His face,&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Ps.105:4) since it is our deepest longing, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;My soul thirsts for God, the living God. When can I enter and see the face of God?&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Psalm 42:2) St. Faustina, again, expresses a profound yearning to see His face, &#8220;<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When will the veils be lifted for me as well? Although I see and feel to a certain extent how very thin is the veil separating me from the Lord, I long to see Him face to face.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Diary 807)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, in the Old Testament, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cthe prophets summoned the people to conversion of heart while zealously seeking the face of God.\u201d<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CCC 2595) So, too, in our millennium, St. John Paul II puts the entire Church on the path of seeking His face, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;To contemplate the face of Christ, is the \u201cprogramme\u201d which I have set before the Church at the dawn of the third millennium.&#8221; <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Ecclesia De Eucharistia no. 6)<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowing that,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cin the beatific vision\u2026we shall see God &#8216;face to face&#8217;, &#8216;as He is,'&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CCC 163) let us <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;contemplate unceasingly the face of Christ&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Vultum Dei quaerere no. 7) for, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;It is from the face of God that this JOY flows out upon ALL.&#8221;<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Diary 1592)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ST.
