Vincent van Gogh is a definitive artist that is\u00a0often only remembered for his brushstrokes and Starry Night<\/a><\/em>. Like many other great artists, his story and personality is often over-simplified and forgotten.<\/p>\n

At one point in his life, van Gogh had tried a life as a preacher, but the Dutch Reformed Church didn’t find him suitable for their needs. Even still, he felt the call of God to live a life proclaiming the good news to the poor.<\/p>\n

He followed a non-traditional approach to his ministry and art, but that is what has made him remarkable.\u00a0One of his common artistic themes focus on stories from the Bible, and\u00a0each one sought to bring a new perspective on the familiar.<\/p>\n

“I prefer painting people\u2019s eyes to cathedrals,” he wrote, “for there is something in the eyes that is not in the cathedral, however solemn and imposing the latter may be — a human soul, be it that of a poor beggar or of a street walker, is more interesting to me.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
