{"id":146208,"date":"2015-09-03T12:26:57","date_gmt":"2015-09-03T17:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=146208"},"modified":"2015-09-03T14:16:41","modified_gmt":"2015-09-03T19:16:41","slug":"a-blue-bell-faith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2015\/09\/a-blue-bell-faith\/","title":{"rendered":"A Blue Bell Faith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/media1.fdncms.com\/sacurrent\/imager\/dumb-ideas-spending-thousands-on-black-ma\/u\/blog\/2437246\/21-blue-bell-ice-cream.w529.h529.2x.jpg\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-146209 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/a-blue-bell-faith-550x421.jpg?resize=550%2C421\" alt=\"A Blue Bell Faith\" width=\"550\" height=\"421\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The state of Texas\u2019 favorite ice cream, Blue Bell, returned to shelves this week after four months of stopped production due to a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/listeria\/pdf\/bluebell-listeria-outbreak-infographic-508c.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Listeria problem and 3 deaths<\/a> in April.<\/p>\n<p>Texans mourned\u00a0the loss of this important dessert, especially during the summer. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chron.com\/life\/food\/article\/The-internet-responds-to-the-Blue-Bell-recalls-6221866.php#photo-7871924\" target=\"_blank\">Memes<\/a> were created, <a href=\"http:\/\/theredledger.net\/2015\/04\/22\/an-ode-to-blue-bell\/\" target=\"_blank\">odes<\/a> were written, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.storenvy.com\/products\/13046745-i-survived-the-blue-bell-famine-of-2015-shirt-black\" target=\"_blank\">t-shirts<\/a> printed and people fasted from ice cream until Blue Bell returned (okay, so I\u2019m not absolutely sure people fasted).<\/p>\n<p>And when Blue Bell returned to the shelves on August 31, people were <a href=\"http:\/\/bizbeatblog.dallasnews.com\/2015\/08\/ice-cream-deprived-in-houston-line-up-early-for-blue-bells-return.html\/\" target=\"_blank\">waiting in line at 5:30am<\/a> to buy ice cream. In many places it was sold out by midday. Yes, there was much joy and dancing in the aisles of stores and in homes (no I didn\u2019t witness it, but I can imagine it happened).<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s return has been delicious. (Actually, I haven\u2019t bought any, so I can\u2019t definitely say it\u2019s delicious, but again, I can imagine it is.)<\/p>\n<p>We missed Blue Bell so much. We were creative in marking its absence. We used it as a topic\u00a0of conversation. We eagerly anticipated it\u2019s return. And rejoiced when we had it in our lives once again.<\/p>\n<p>The return of Blue Bell has made me think\u2026If we can do things like this for Blue Bell ice cream, what can we do for our faith?<\/p>\n<p>We missed our Blue Bell ice cream and mourned our separation from it, can we mourn our separation from God when we do wrong and sin? We anxiously waited\u00a0in line for the return of ice cream, can we anxiously wait in line and seek Confession?<\/p>\n<p>We were creative in memes and poems about our beloved dessert, can we be creative in sharing our faith with others? We would casually mention missing Blue Bell ice cream, can we casually mention something about our faith in conversation?<\/p>\n<p>Yes, the return of Blue Bell ice cream is great! We really do we enjoy our ice cream, especially in this Texas heat, and especially when it&#8217;s our beloved Texas Blue Bell.<\/p>\n<p>So can\u00a0we savor movements of a faith like we savor ice cream?
