about life as a Dominican.\u00a0 Keep reading!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>DOMINICAN SISTER LUNCHEON<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_12957\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/index.php\/2012\/03\/meet-a-dominican-sister-for-lunch\/dsmme_2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-12957\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12957\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12957\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/DSMME_2-224x300.jpg?resize=224%2C300\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-12957\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo courtesy of DSMME<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>March 22, 11:30am-1pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Driskill Hotel<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Tickets are $35 and pre-registration is REQUIRED.\u00a0 No tickets will be sold at the door.\u00a0 Deadline for registering is NOON on Monday, March 19.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>You may register <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sistersofmary.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=332%3Abenefit-lunch-tx&amp;catid=51%3Atx-expansion&amp;Itemid=475\">online <\/a>or by calling Sr. Elizabeth Ann,\u00a0\u00a0(512) 949-2436.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At the luncheon, Mother Assumpta Long, O.P., will share the Order&#8217;s\u00a0inspiring mission and vision for their young and growing community and their contribution to Catholic education in our country, especially as it relates to Texas and their plans to build a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sistersofmary.org\/images\/files\/Mothers%20Letter%20-%20Oct%207%202011.pdf\">Priory in Georgetown<\/a>.\u00a0 You may know them as the Ann Arbor Dominicans (based on their\u00a0Priory&#8217;s location in Michigan), or perhaps you saw them appear on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sistersofmary.org\/index.php?option=com_content&amp;view=article&amp;id=278&amp;Itemid=1\"><em>Oprah<\/em> <\/a>a few times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Their impact on our family has been great.\u00a0<\/strong> As a convert to the Catholic faith, not only did I initially believe most priests were over 50, but that nuns were a dying breed.\u00a0 Then, I was introduced to the Ann Arbor Dominicans and was happily surprised to hear their average age is 28,\u00a0almost a decade younger than I am!\u00a0 One of the sisters currently teaches at our children&#8217;s school in north Austin.\u00a0 Her influence there is undeniable.\u00a0 As a mother I am constantly aware of my children&#8217;s company.\u00a0 Who is influencing them?\u00a0 Who helps mold and shape their decisions and opinions\u00a0about our faith?\u00a0 Certainly, the Dominicans have a positive influence on my daughters, showing them that a religious vocation is fruitful, joyful and blessed.\u00a0 For my boys, I pray they are a model of how to treat a woman.\u00a0 As brides of Christ, what better example is there?<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you&#8217;re like me, you may have a thousand questions about religious life and how they can positively affect Catholic education in our diocese.\u00a0<\/strong> Several months ago I had dinner with girlfriends, none of whom are Catholic, and the topic of\u00a0 the &#8220;nuns in the neighborhood&#8221; became a hot topic of conversation.\u00a0 Their northern convent is in our neighborhood and it&#8217;s not uncommon to see a Sister taking a walk while praying the rosary.\u00a0 My girlfriends&#8217;
