{"id":116365,"date":"2015-05-27T09:15:17","date_gmt":"2015-05-27T14:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=116365"},"modified":"2015-05-27T10:12:14","modified_gmt":"2015-05-27T15:12:14","slug":"corpus-christi-procession-that-your-joy-may-be-complete-part-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2015\/05\/corpus-christi-procession-that-your-joy-may-be-complete-part-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Corpus Christi Procession \u2013 \u201cThat Your Joy May Be Complete\u201d (Part 3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-116372\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Ecce_panis_angelorum_factus_cibus_viatorum-550x261.jpg?resize=550%2C261\" alt=\"Ecce_panis_angelorum_factus_cibus_viatorum\" width=\"550\" height=\"261\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Corpus Christ procession is one of those cosmic events in our lives that recalls the words of Jesus, \u201cThat your joy may be complete.\u201d (Jn. 16:24) \u00a0In the gospel Zacchaeus climbs a tree to see Jesus in procession (Lk. 19: 1-9) and this encounter fills him with an over abundance of joy. \u00a0To keep his new found joy, Zacchaeus offers to give away half his possessions to the poor, and to anyone whom he has defrauded, he offers to repay them four-fold calling to mind Jesus&#8217; words that \u201cNo one will take your joy away from you.\u201d (Jn. 16:22) \u00a0Or better said he sells everything to buy the pearl of great price (Matt. 13:45-46): The Joy of Finding Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>The Corpus Christi procession opens the eyes of the blind as when the blind beggar hears that Jesus is passing by on His way to Jericho, and he begins to cry out, \u201cSon of David, have mercy on me,\u201d (Lk. 18:39) so Jesus heals him. \u201cWhen they saw this, all the people gave praise to God,\u201d (Lk.18:18-43) because they too were blind and now they see. \u00a0Their joy turns into the praise that Isaiah speaks of, \u201cShout aloud and sing for joy!\u201d (12:6)<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_116370\" style=\"width: 98px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-116370\" class=\"wp-image-116370 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/monstrance-silver-large-88x190.gif?resize=88%2C190\" alt=\"A Monstrance\" width=\"88\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-116370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A Monstrance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Corpus Christ procession brings joy to the sick, as when Jesus goes to see a dying little girl, and \u201cA large crowd followed and pressed around him\u201d (Matt. 5:24); then a woman who is sick touches His garment and receives healing. After waiting for twelve long years, her whole being is now full of joy, &#8220;Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.&#8221; (Isaiah 35:6) \u00a0In the words of Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, when writing about the Corpus Christi procession, \u201cThis leads too, to the core of our humanity, which yearns for this joy with its every fiber.\u201d\u00b9<\/p>\n<p>The Corpus Christi procession can also been seen when the five thousand (not counting women and children) follow Jesus into the hills to experience the joy of his teachings, and the joy of being miraculously fed on a couple of occasions. \u00a0As we follow Jesus in procession, He will again fill us with the joy of walking with Him and learning from Him as those thousands did 2,000 years ago.
