{"id":111621,"date":"2015-05-13T07:30:58","date_gmt":"2015-05-13T12:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.austincnm.com\/?p=111621"},"modified":"2015-05-09T19:53:57","modified_gmt":"2015-05-10T00:53:57","slug":"open-the-door-of-mercy-homily","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atxcatholic.com\/index.php\/2015\/05\/open-the-door-of-mercy-homily\/","title":{"rendered":"Open the Door of Mercy Homily"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This homily was given at St Mary Cathedral in downtown Austin on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usccb.org\/bible\/readings\/\" target=\"_blank\">May 7, 2015<\/a> in the 4th Week of Easter.<\/p>\n<p>[powerpress]<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_111622\" style=\"width: 270px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-111622\" class=\"wp-image-111622 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/YearofMercyLogo.jpg?resize=260%2C433\" alt=\"Year of Mercy\" width=\"260\" height=\"433\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-111622\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Year of Mercy Logo<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Pope Francis Prayer for the Jubilee of Mercy<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Lord Jesus Christ,<\/p>\n<p>you have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,<\/p>\n<p>and have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.<\/p>\n<p>Show us your face and we will be saved.<\/p>\n<p>Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;<\/p>\n<p>the adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;<\/p>\n<p>made Peter weep after his betrayal,<\/p>\n<p>and assured Paradise to the repentant thief.<\/p>\n<p>Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you knew the gift of God!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You are the visible face of the invisible Father,<\/p>\n<p>of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:<\/p>\n<p>let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.<\/p>\n<p>You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness<\/p>\n<p>in order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:<\/p>\n<p>let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.<\/p>\n<p>Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,<\/p>\n<p>so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,<\/p>\n<p>and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,<\/p>\n<p>proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,<\/p>\n<p>and restore sight to the blind.<\/p>\n<p>We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy,<\/p>\n<p>you who live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.<\/p>\n<p>Amen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This homily was given at St Mary Cathedral in downtown Austin on May 7, 2015 in the 4th Week of Easter.
