Saints are certainly of particular interests.<\/p>\n<p>We are blessed to live in the communion of saints that surrounds us to encourage and <a href=\"http:\/\/soulpainter.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/conversations-with-saints\/\">intercede for our intentions<\/a>. To be a saint, a person must have completed their life on earth and be in the fullness of the beatific vision in heaven.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107349\" style=\"width: 159px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107349\" class=\"wp-image-107349 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/SanMartinLevatating-149x190.jpg?resize=149%2C190\" alt=\"SanMartinLevatating\" width=\"149\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-107349\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Martin de Porres<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>How many canonized saints are there?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The most <a href=\"http:\/\/catholicexchange.com\/saints-101-how-many-saints-are-there\">certain number of official saints<\/a> that can be found is in the 800s, but there is plenty of dispute about that number. It\u2019s important to note that there are innumerable amounts of saints because canonization is not required to be in heaven. The majority of the citizens of heaven are not officially recognized, but that doesn\u2019t negate the reality of their state. It&#8217;s more important to remember that there are people in heaven and we hope to be there someday too.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107350\" style=\"width: 137px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107350\" class=\"wp-image-107350 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/St-Joseph-of-Cupertino-127x190.jpg?resize=127%2C190\" alt=\"St-Joseph-of-Cupertino\" width=\"127\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-107350\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Joseph Cupertino<\/p><\/div>\n<p><b>Did saints need to perform miracles in their earthly life?<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Many of the saints were able to use their charisms to do extraordinary, even supernatural, acts to serve the Lord and love their neighbor. Although, none of this was through their own ability, it all came about through the generous grace of the Holy Spirit. We hear many of these great stories in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blueletterbible.org\/study\/parallel\/paral02.cfm\">book of Acts<\/a> and the rest of Sacred Scripture.<\/p>\n<p>Performing miracles in this life is not a requirement to be considered for sainthood, only living a life committed to Christ through heroic virtue to live in union with Him.<\/p>\n<p><strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Why is there such an emphasis on miracles for canonization?<\/b><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107356\" style=\"width: 233px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107356\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-107356\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/pope-john-paul-ii-and-mother-theresa-223x190.jpg?resize=223%2C190\" alt=\"JP2 and Mother Theresa\" width=\"223\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-107356\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">JP2 and Mother Theresa<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It&#8217;s interesting to note that the reasons for canonization have nothing to do with miracles in their earthly life. Even a miracle man like St Padre Pio was celebrated at his canonization for his fidelity to the love of Jesus instead of ever mentioning any of the supernatural acts he participated in with the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107353\" style=\"width: 142px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107353\" class=\"wp-image-107353 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/StTheresaInEcstacy-132x190.jpeg?resize=132%2C190\" alt=\"St Theresa\" width=\"132\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-107353\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St Theresa<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Miracles through intercession are required after the death of a person in order to give testimony of their presence in heaven. Scientific and theological commissions are assigned to investigate that the act was truly unexplainable and completely effective. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewtn.com\/johnpaul2\/cause\/process.asp\">process<\/a>\u00a0leaves no room for doubt that there was truly a miracle. It is not part of our creed or even in our Catechism, it&#8217;s only optional devotion. The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vatican.va\/roman_curia\/congregations\/ccdds\/documents\/rc_con_ccdds_doc_20020513_vers-direttorio_en.html#Chapter%20Six\" target=\"_blank\">Directory of Popular Piety<\/a> has some guidance on practicing this devotion and veneration of saints.<\/p>\n<p>We are only required to believe in the Communion of Saints, and acknowledge the validity of their canonization.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_107357\" style=\"width: 129px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-107357\" class=\"wp-image-107357 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.austincnm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/passignano-the-resurrection-119x190.jpg?resize=119%2C190\" alt=\"The Resurrection - Passignano\" width=\"119\" height=\"190\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-107357\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Resurrection &#8211; Passignano<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Even if it\u2019s not required, these are opportunities to have faith in the power of God, especially in His desire to use us as instruments of His love and mercy.<\/p>\n<p>On a similar topic, it is important to believe that God is capable of performing miracles and not to downplay those that we hear in scripture. Doubting the power of God waters down His omnipotence and power in our minds, but we can be confident that with God, all things are possible.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>He said to them, \u201cBecause of your little faith. Amen, I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, \u2018Move from here to there,\u2019 and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Matthew 17:20<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are countless amazing stories of the great things that God has done in the lives of these great witnesses.
