Face Time and Presence

The time has come for our second meet up of 2011. Last fall when we began trying to coordinate details for meet ups, we were unsure of how many people would be interested in getting together. Meet ups are very common these days, and it seems like you can find one for every niche discovered or invented. Still, we wondered, would Catholics be interested? Many people that are against using or promoting new media often feel that it is too impersonal  and takes time away from being with people. Meet ups and other similar events are obvious signs that we cannot avoid being social beings and that the internet is a powerful tool for bringing people together. Our faith is also very social and communal, and I believe that groups that gather in the name of Christ can radiate with His presence.

Austin Catholic New Media’s central focus is evangelizing, but we also seek to focus on social networking. It’s difficult to take on so much work individually, but working together our community can support each other in prayer, work and new ideas. We have a lot to discuss and look forward to spending time with each other.

Our first meet up was modest in size and understandably so because we were just getting started. Personally, I’m still unsure of how many Catholics are interested now, but I am confident that our community will grow with time. So far, we keep being amazed at all that God provides. Our mission and work is in His hands, and our excitement is uncontainable at the direction we believe that God is leading us.

Maybe you’ve wondered who those two guys and the girl are and what they’re like in person? You could also just want to meet more Catholics that love reading blogs or consuming other forms of Cathoilc media. Whatever your reason, we welcome you with us this week for our second quarter meet up. We hope to see you there.
